Read Isaiah 58:6-10, then read the last paragraph of chapter 16 of Things Fall Apart. What themes do these two passages share? As Christians, we are called to more than just "saving" people, getting them to pray a prayer of salvation. We are called to live an "abundant life" and to bring others into it through discipleship. What have you learned about being God's instrument for healing in a broken world?

Both passages have to do with relief, and how Christians are supposed to treat people. In my experience God uses the words of wise people and scripter to deliver healing. But sometimes I wonder why he offers to heal us and gives us a cross to bear. It makes it hard to distinguish what needs to be healed and what is just their to build patients.

I have learned that being gods instrument. Is teaching us that we have to teach other the word and lead other people towards god. I also believe that us being gods insturment is telling us to help others and to love everyone equally. And everyone is our neighbour.

I agree with William. The verses have to do with our calling to relieve suffering. Not just physical suffering, but spiritual suffering and spiritual death. Nwoye is a good example of this. He had a "dead" soul, but it was awoken by the healing power of Christian worship. We are not just asked, but mandated to spread the light placed within us by our God as his children. This is the biggest part of the Great Commission given to us by Jesus himself, and as Christians, we are required to carry it out.

Both of these passages are trying to show the correct way to spread God's word around the world. What I have learned about being God's disciple is that whenever given the chance to, we must try to save someone who is not already with Christ. This however is not always a situation everyone finds themselves in so many times the best thing we can do is live our life for Christ so other people see him in us and to keep our Christian brethren on the path towards righteousness.

It is far more effective and paints a better picture of Christians bringing people who do not know God slowly and faithfully than quickly bringing them to church and treating the disciplined person as a project. This could paint a bad picture of Christians. I have learned how to be God's Instrument better by understanding the Great Commission. I have done this by reading the Bible and hanging out with others who share my goal. However, the most effective way to bring others to Christ is by seeking God's insight. Comments are closed.
