Next class (November 5) the Theatre Arts class will hold auditions for its next play: A Christmas Carol. Students were given the script to take home today - they should read through it and come prepared to read a scene or two for auditions next class. Mrs. Brembeck and I will cast the show and we will begin rehearsing right away!
WHY CHARLES DICKENS? Mr. Charles Dickens was a beloved 19th Century British author who penned classics such as Oliver Twist, David Copperfield, Great Expectations, and, of course, A Christmas Carol. According to Les Standiford, author of The Man Who Invented Christmas, Dickens wrote A Christmas Carol at a time when he was really struggling financially and desperate to revive his career: “Faced with bankruptcy, he was contemplating giving up on writing fiction altogether. Instead, he pulled himself together and, in six short weeks, wrote a book that not only restored him in the eyes of the public but began the transformation of what was then a second-tier holiday into the most significant celebration of the Christian calendar,” (p. 6).
