For the past 8 weeks, the Humanities Vault Theatre Arts class has been working on three one act plays, based on Greek myths: Athena and Arachne (the myth of how the spider came to be!), King Midas and the Golden Touch (a lesson in being careful what you wish for!), and Pandora's Box (the myth about a beautiful, funny, talented, but rather foolish girl and her foolish husband!).
WHY GREEK MYTHS? Greek mythology is present throughout much of classical literature – it’s important for students to have this knowledge in their literature foundation in order to understand the allusions present throughout the classics they will read in high school, such as Cry, the Beloved Country, Things Fall Apart, and Frankenstein, as well as various poems and Shakespeare plays. The goal with this unit was to introduce students to the basic elements of acting, such as script-reading, ensemble work, stage directions, physicality, and vocal production. PERFORMANCES
