In chapter six, Mama hits on an important theme in this novel when she tells her daughter, “Baby, we have no choice of what color we’re born or who our parents are or whether we’re rich or poor. What we do have is some choice over what we make of our lives once we’re here.” Explain what Mama means by this, and how you’ve seen this lesson play out in your own life (or in the life of someone you know).

We are not born with choice of our wealth, but we can make our future the way we intend it to be.I was not born rich but in a family with love and care who wants me and my brother and sister to succeed in life and to one day have a family who will have the same experience and to be taught how to love and care for others less fortunate them.

Mama means that we don't decide what race or color you are but you can control what you do with your life and you can make your life great no matter what. I personally have never seen anything like this.

I think she means that you can't control your family or how much money you have. She also means that you make your life what you want. You can change what you do and fix what you don't like.

Mama is saying that even though they might not have much money or are a different color they still have to make wise decisions about how their life goes. This is in my life when I have to except how life is even though I don't want to. I have done this when I that people litter all over our yards and streets but don't try to pick it up. This really annoys my Dad, so he and our Neighbors help pick it up.

In the book, Mama tells her children a very important truth. Some of us are wealthy, some of us are poor, some of us have disabilities, some of us don't. Regardless of circumstance, race, physical appearance, or wealth, all of us can work to look past our problems and do something about it. If we only dwell in regret over our misfortunes, it will hinder us in living out our lives fully and only make us more miserable. Even though its ok to cry, if we embrace our differences and work and look forward to our future, the world can become a better place.

What mama means by this is, we cant choose what race we are, or if we are rich or poor. But we can choose what we do in life. She tries to tell the children this so they can grow and be someone, and not be known for their color. She tries to tell the children that their past doesn't have to effect their future.

she is saying that we may not have a choice on what race we are but we can choose who we become. She is also saying that we can choose what we do as a human being and how we treat people and who we are as a human being
