Watch this clip from the 1962 movie To Kill a Mockingbird.
A common phrase you hear as a child is “Life’s not fair,” which is a simplified way of saying that life is full of injustice and pain. In fact, the Bible says that we should strive to correct oppression (Isaiah 1:17) and that we should judge people and situations as objectively as possible (which means without bias): “Do not pervert justice; do not show partiality to the poor or favoritism to the great, but judge your neighbor fairly,” (Leviticus 19:15). This novel asks us to consider how we can maintain our integrity in the face of injustice -- how do you think the novel answers this question? In other words, which characters in this story are considered upright people of integrity? What makes them “good” (but not perfect) people? Where does your character fit into this theme?

I think that Atticus is an upright character of integrity. he is always calm and handles problems very well. he is not perfect though as no one is perfect. but he is not perfect because he has had cases that he couldn't handle in court and he failed to get it right.

Like Josh, I also think that Atticus shows a great deal of integrity. Even though others are angry with him, he chooses to defend Tom Robinson because he knows it is the right thing to do. Atticus doesn't care about what others think or tell him to do, he knows deep down what is just. He doesn't try to hide his opinion and actions either, but acts boldly.

I also think that Atticus shows a lot of integrity throughout the novel. Hs stood up for a friend, Tom Robinson, when there was a large mob of people who wanted to kill him. Atticus listens to what others have to say , but then comes up with his own way to fix it. He is a relaxed man who has his own thoughts that he only says or uses when they are needed.

I think that Jem is best represented as this type of character for one reason:bravery even when Atticus said to go home in the lynching scene he refused. He decided to stay and protect Tom Robinson and his father .This also very courageous of him to protect his father from a mob with guns and pitchforks.

I also think Atticus is a kind and just person. He defended a man who wouldn’t get the same treatment as other people just because of his race. Atticus was set in making sure everything was fair.

I agree with Dorian, he had a good point in standing up to his father. He didn't know it but he saved a mans life. Jem also is getting more wise in telling Atticus about Dill.

Like everyone else, I can agree that Atticus is a man of integrity, he's upright and humble, but still not perfect. Atticus stands up for whoever comes across him, and he's a good father to Jem, and Scout, and sometimes even Dill.
