One of the most startling revelations in life is to learn that someone is not what everyone thought he/she was – that you have been deceived. Do you consider yourself a trusting person? Do you believe what people tell you unless given a reason to doubt their word? Have you ever been deceived by a person or situation that turned out to be other than what you thought it would be?

If giving even the best of people power will eventually corrupt them, as the last two novels have argued, why do we need authority at all? Why a government? Why leaders in the Church?
