Just a reminder to that when we return from spring break on March 28, you will need to be off-book (meaning completely memorized!). You will no longer be allowed to have your script on stage with you during rehearsal. If you lost your script, you can download a copy here.
Enjoy your break!

Next week we will be doing table work, during which we spend time learning about the context of the story and analyzing our characters. To prepare for this, each student was assigned a particular aspect of the context of Pride & Prejudice. Research your topic and bring 5 important or interesting facts regarding your topic to share with the class.
This semester we will focus on one play: a farcical version of Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen (adapted by Brendan P. Kelso).
To start off spring semester, we are going to watch a film version of the original Pride and Prejudice. Since only a few students are familiar with the novel, this is a quick way to introduce everyone to the original story line so the whole cast understands the farcical aspect of the production. Beginning tomorrow (1/17) we will watch sections of the 2005 film adaptation directed by Joe Wright, which is rated PG. You can find more information about the content and age-appropriateness of this film on the Common Sense Media website. If you have any objections to watching this movie in class, please let me know and I will come up with an alternative assignment to complete during the time we are watching the film. This Pride and Prejudice script is silly and funny - it will be a lot of fun to work on this semester! Only two more rehearsals left until our performance on December 20! Students should have ALL costumes and prop pieces beginning this week at rehearsal.
On Thursday, December 20 we will open the doors at 1:15 - Mrs. Brembeck's 4th and 5th grade class will perform first, followed by the 5th and 6th grade musical mime performances. Break a leg! Today we began a new unit where students chose from a list of songs to create a story to perform on the afternoon of December 20th. Each group has permission to bring an mp3 player (tablet, cell phone, etc.) for the sole purpose of rehearsing their plays (12:45-2:15 on Thursdays). If a student doesn't have a device, not to worry - each group only needs one device and there are 3-4 students in each group, or we can use my phone to play the song if needed.
To learn more about the nature of the assignment and its purpose, you can find a description here. Today each group chose a song, and I then sent the file to everyone in the group so it could be uploaded to an mp3 player. I look forward to seeing everyone on December 20 for their performances! Students: Go to your group's list and choose one of the songs on the list that you would like to use for the soundtrack of your story.
Next Thursday the 5th & 6th grade drama class will perform a project they've been working on called Folk Stories from Around the World. This will be an informal Readers' Theater performance for the purpose of rehearsing vocal production and characterization. You are welcome to come if you wish: 1:45p.m. in the sanctuary.
We will do a much more formal performance along with Mrs. Brembeck's 3rd & 4th grade class at the end of December, followed by a full-length play at the end of May. Auditions went well yesterday! Next week we will begin rehearsing Folk Tales from Around the World, a Radio Play. Our schedule will be as follows:
Hello and welcome! Today students were given a copy of the syllabus. The assignment is to have their parents read through it and fill out the parent page. I'm looking forward to a wonderful year with everyone!
